Our Disrupting The Feed study revealed multiple positive outcomes resulting from the introduction of new, diverse and positive female role models into the social media feeds of young people. We want to continue to build awareness of social media’s positive potential and therefore share with you a diverse range of inspirational profiles across a variety of career paths and backgrounds, who maintain an active and positive social media presence.
• This list is a mixture of both our recommendations but also the recommendations of girls and women in our community.
• We have provided you a starting point but this collection is in no way a comprehensive list of all of the positive profiles we could share.
• Below are a range of profiles, some of which are more well-known than others. We recognise that many of these individuals & pages could often fit in several categseyories.
• Ultimately, it is about the diversity of choice and that’s what is missing for a lot of young people because you can’t be what you can’t see.
We hope that by following a few of these profiles you will begin to feel empowered to take the lead in your own life.
“I was following Instagram models and realittunny stars because everybody else did. It was all bikini pics. Taking part in this study taught me that this wasn’t good for me. Once I started following inspirational, hard-working, career-orientated women, it threw up loads more, I feel healthier in my mind” – Leila Symonds, Study Participant.
